PhishDestroy threat report
omni.varlational.com is an impersonation phishing page that presented itself as Variational Protocol, using a lookalike domain where an "l" replaces the "i" in the brand name. It targeted crypto users who expected the real protocol's interface and might not notice the misspelling. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-03, one day after registration. The site went offline on 2026-09-11, and on 2026-10-19 its DNS was still inactive.
The page carried the title "Variational Protocol" so that visitors arriving from search ads, social posts or direct messages would believe they were on the genuine platform. Pages like this usually ask the visitor to connect a wallet, then present transaction or signature requests disguised as routine steps such as logging in, claiming a reward or opening a position. Approving those requests can grant the operator permission to move tokens out of the wallet, and the losses are typically immediate and irreversible on-chain. The "omni" subdomain adds a plausible product-style label to the fake address.
On 2026-09-06, 5 of 90 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: ChainPatrol, CRDF, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That count is modest, which is common for a domain only a few days old. The more telling signal is that wallet-focused defenders acted on it. Besides PhishDestroy, the domain is listed by MetaMask and SEAL, so wallet users relying on those protections would have been warned.
The domain was registered on 2026-09-02 through Global Domain Group LLC and was detected the next day. That short gap fits a disposable phishing domain built for a brief campaign rather than a lasting site. It sat behind Cloudflare (AS13335) in the US, which hides the real origin server, and used a Google Trust Services certificate, so the padlock in the browser said nothing about whether the site was legitimate. Its lifespan was roughly nine days.
If you connected a wallet to this site, check which token approvals and permissions it holds with a trusted approval-revocation tool and revoke any you do not recognise. If you signed transactions or messages there, move your remaining assets to a fresh wallet. If you ever entered a seed phrase, treat that wallet as fully compromised and stop using it. Always reach Variational Protocol through a bookmarked address and check the spelling carefully. Defenders should block the domain and similar typosquats of the brand, and check logs for earlier visits from their users.
