How the scam works
Tax-themed lures work because they sound official and time-sensitive. A message warns about a missing tax transcript, a reporting deadline or an account review, and the link leads to a page branded as Nexo. The page then asks for login credentials and two-factor codes, and sometimes for identity documents. With those, the operators can sign in to the real Nexo account, move funds out and reuse the personal data for further fraud. The domain name, which pairs "nexo" with "taxtranscript", is built to make that pretext look routine.
Evidence
On 2026-10-17, VirusTotal showed 5 of 92 engines flagging the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That count is modest, so many users' browsers and filters may not warn them yet. ScamSniffer, a crypto-focused blocklist, lists it alongside PhishDestroy. Spamhaus carries it in its domain blocklist as spam, and it appears in three AlienVault OTX threat pulses.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-10-01 through NICENIC INTERNATIONAL GROUP CO., LIMITED. It was caught eight days later, a short gap that fits a campaign launched soon after registration. The site sits behind Cloudflare's network, geolocated to Canada, so the visible address belongs to Cloudflare rather than the actual server. It uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser says nothing about who runs the site.
What to do
If you entered your Nexo login on this page, change your password from the official Nexo app or site at once. Reset two-factor authentication, sign out all other sessions and review recent withdrawals and whitelisted addresses. If you uploaded ID documents or tax details, contact Nexo support and watch for identity misuse or follow-up messages claiming to be from Nexo. Defenders should block the domain and filter email containing tax or transcript lures that use the Nexo name.
