PhishDestroy threat report
mega-cars.com presented itself as "Mega Cars - Verified Vehicle Auctions," a trustworthy auction platform. PhishDestroy classifies it as an impersonation phishing page. It targeted people shopping for used or discounted vehicles. We first flagged it on 2026-09-05, and it has been offline since 2026-09-15, with DNS still inactive at our last check on 2026-10-19.
Fake auction sites copy the look and language of real vehicle marketplaces, and the word "Verified" in this page's title is there to lower a buyer's guard. Victims are typically shown attractive listings and then asked to pay a deposit, bid guarantee, shipping or escrow fee before the car can be released. Some are also asked to upload ID documents. The vehicle never arrives. The victim loses whatever they paid, along with any personal or payment details they handed over.
On 2026-09-17, five of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet and SOCRadar. That is a low count, but it comes from several independent vendors. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as a spam source, and it appears in 10 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have tracked it as well. Among blocklists, it is currently carried by PhishDestroy.
The domain was registered on 2024-01-19 through Gname.com Pte. Ltd., roughly two years and seven months before we detected it. An aged domain like this tends to pass reputation checks more easily than a freshly registered one. It was hosted on the VPSPay network in Germany. The site went dark only ten days after our first sighting, which points to a short-lived campaign rather than a lasting storefront.
If you paid a deposit or fee through this site, contact your bank or card issuer right away and ask about a chargeback or recall. Crypto payments usually cannot be reversed, but you should still report the transfer to the exchange you sent it from. If you uploaded an ID or driver's licence, watch for identity fraud and consider a credit freeze. Change any password you reused on the site, and report the loss to your national fraud authority. Defenders should block the domain and treat other "verified auction" lookalikes on new or reactivated domains as suspect.

Start with the payment page, where the operator says the quiet part out loud. Under "Not accepted" it lists,”
