PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

kolebit.com presented itself as a cryptocurrency exchange under the title "Cryptocurrency Exchange | Buy cryptocurrency on koleBIT". PhishDestroy classifies it as an impersonation phishing page aimed at people shopping for a place to buy crypto. We first flagged it on 2026-10-16. The site went offline on 2026-10-17, and as of 2026-10-19 it remains dead, with its content blocked by the provider.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages like this copy the look and wording of a real trading platform so that a visitor believes they are signing up with a legitimate exchange. The usual goal is to collect login credentials and personal details, or to persuade the victim to fund an account. Deposited money never reaches a real exchange, and requests to withdraw are commonly answered with demands for extra fees. The page title uses a single brand name, koleBIT, and we classified the site as impersonation rather than as an independent exchange.

Evidence

VirusTotal showed 0 detections out of 92 engines on 2026-10-16. That means automated scanners had not caught up on the day we flagged it, so a clean scan should not be read as a sign the site was safe. Wallet and security blocklists did catch it: MetaMask and SEAL list the domain alongside PhishDestroy. It also appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers tied it to malicious activity independently of us.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-08 through Eranet International Limited, only eight days before we detected it. That gap is typical of throwaway domains built for a short campaign. The site sat behind Cloudflare (AS13335) in the US, which puts a proxy in front of the server actually hosting the content. The Let's Encrypt certificate gave it the padlock in the address bar, which does nothing to show the operator is trustworthy.

What to do

If you registered on kolebit.com, change that password anywhere you reused it and turn on app-based 2FA. Expect follow-up phishing using any email or phone number you entered. If you sent funds, do not pay any "withdrawal fee" or "unlock" charge to get them back. Report the transfer to your bank or the exchange it came from, and keep transaction records for a police report. Defenders should block the domain and check logs for visits or form submissions since 2026-10-08.
