PhishDestroy threat report
hanodex.com poses as the official Google Chrome site. Its page title is "Google Chrome - The Fast & Secure Web Browser Built to be Yours," and it runs a fake browser update scheme. It targets ordinary users who can be convinced their browser needs an urgent fix, including anyone keeping crypto wallets or exchange logins in that browser. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-04. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and redirecting visitors.
Fake update pages copy the look of a trusted vendor and tell the visitor their browser is out of date or broken. The page then offers an "update" file to download and run. That file is malware, not a Chrome installer. Payloads in this scheme typically steal saved passwords, session cookies and browser-based wallet extensions, or give attackers remote access to the machine. The victim can lose accounts, crypto holdings and control of the device in one click.
urlscan.io rated the site malicious and matched it to the fakeupdate pattern. On VirusTotal, 4 of 92 engines flagged it as of 2026-10-15: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That is a low count, so many security tools may still let the page load. The domain appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which shows other researchers are tracking the same activity. PhishDestroy lists it on its blocklist.
The domain was registered on 2026-08-13 through Fewmoretaps OU d/b/a Trustname.com. PhishDestroy detected it about seven weeks later. The site sits behind Cloudflare, with the edge address located in Canada, so the server that actually hosts it is hidden. Its TLS certificate from Google Trust Services is the standard one for Cloudflare-fronted sites and says nothing about the site's legitimacy. A domain with no connection to Google serving a Chrome-branded page is the clearest warning sign.
If you visited but downloaded nothing, close the page. Chrome updates itself from its own settings menu and never asks you to download an update from a website. If you ran a file from this site, disconnect the device from the network, run a full malware scan, and treat the machine as compromised. From a clean device, change your passwords, sign out of all active sessions, and turn on or reset two-factor authentication. Move any crypto from wallets used on that machine to a new wallet with a fresh seed phrase. Defenders should block the domain, search proxy and endpoint logs for downloads from it, and remind users that real browser updates never come from third-party sites.
