This domain, atazino.at, presents a targeted brand impersonation threat against Google, specifically mimicking the official Google Chrome download portal. Analysis of the page title, 'Google Chrome – den schnellen und sicheren Browser von Google jetzt herunterladen,' confirms the domain was designed to deceive users into downloading counterfeit or malicious software under the guise of legitimate browser installation. The German-language phrasing suggests a focused campaign targeting German-speaking users, increasing the likelihood of successful social engineering attacks within this demographic. Technical evidence underscores the elevated risk associated with this domain. At the time of analysis, 19 out of 95 security vendors on VirusTotal flagged atazino.at as malicious, indicating broad consensus among detection engines. The domain was registered through Key-Systems GmbH, a registrar commonly utilized for both legitimate and malicious domains, providing no inherent trust indicators. Infrastructure analysis reveals the domain previously resolved to the IP address 104.21.8.233, hosted on Cloudflare’s network (AS13335), a common obfuscation tactic to mask the true origin of malicious infrastructure. Additionally, the domain appears on one security blocklist, further validating its classification as a threat. The SSL certificate, issued by Google Trust Services (WE1), does not mitigate the risk, as attackers frequently abuse legitimate certificates to lend false credibility to phishing sites. Users who visited atazino.at or interacted with its content should take immediate remedial action. If any downloads were initiated, the affected system should be scanned using updated security tools to detect and remove potential malware. Credentials entered on the site must be considered compromised and should be changed immediately from a secure device. Users are advised to verify the authenticity of download sources by cross-referencing with official vendor domains and to monitor for unusual account activity. Given the domain’s current offline status, continuous vigilance is recommended, as threat actors may reactivate similar infrastructure under different domains or IPs.
