# Fake airdrop A fake airdrop is a phishing page that announces free tokens or an eligibility check, so that visitors connect their wallet and sign a request that drains it. ## How it works Lures spread through promoted posts, hijacked project accounts and look-alike domains of real protocols. The "claim" button requests an approval, a permit or a transfer. Domains copy the real project's design and are often registered hours before the campaign. ## Example from the PhishDestroy database - [spinsamurai-au.club](https://phishdestroy.io/domain/spinsamurai-au.club/): Fake-airdrop domain, first detected 2026-10-22. - [genesis-variational.com](https://phishdestroy.io/domain/genesis-variational.com/): Fake-airdrop domain, first detected 2026-10-21. - [rabbysend.site](https://phishdestroy.io/domain/rabbysend.site/): Fake-airdrop domain, first detected 2026-10-21. ## How to protect yourself - Check airdrops only from the project's official channels and its verified domain. - Never sign an approval to "claim" tokens. ## Related tools - [Signature Request Inspector](https://phishdestroy.io/developer-tools/sign-inspector) - [Homoglyph Checker](https://phishdestroy.io/developer-tools/homoglyph-checker) ## Related terms - [Wallet drainer](https://phishdestroy.io/glossary/wallet-drainer/) - [Permit phishing](https://phishdestroy.io/glossary/permit-phishing/) ## Further reading - [Crypto Drainer Anatomy: $1.93B Stolen](https://phishdestroy.io/crypto-drainer-anatomy) ## Glossary - [All terms](https://phishdestroy.io/glossary/) Canonical: https://phishdestroy.io/glossary/airdrop-scam/
